Gliders
Taking a glider flight is the closest you will ever come to soaring like a bird. A glider is a wonderful, graceful aircraft that depends on gravity and air currents to stay in flight. They are usually regarded as pure flying vehicles because they have no engines. This art of silent flight provides for a fascinating, spellbinding experience that introduces you to a world you have never been part of. If you love aviation sports, you will certainly enjoy the tranquility and the breathtaking views one gets from a motor less flight. The pilot is seated behind you so you get to have a clear, unobstructed view of the features surrounding you.
The glider flight is completely safe. The first step you should take if you want to have a feel of the experience is to book an introductory flight. There are various types of gliders that you can choose from such as the sailplane, hang glider and the paraglider which is the most recent. Hang gliding is one of the oldest forms of piloting aircraft and it is perhaps the most exciting because it’s launched using the feet. The body of this type of glider is mostly cloth encapsulating a minimal structure that allows the pilot to settle in firmly while hanging like a bat.
The most commonly used, however, are the other types of gliders because they have the typical airplane structure where you get to sit inside, unlike the hang glider which is more of a kite. A normal airplane launches the glider by towing it up to a certain height after which the glider pilot now takes control. Once you are 3000 feet high in the air, the feeling is simply amazing. It is as if the wings of the glider are joined to your shoulders giving you the feeling of flying like a bird. If you are lucky enough, you may get to mingle with a red-tail hawk or a bald eagle up in the clouds. They are usually attracted to the glider because it doesn’t generate any noise
.
Sunny, windy days are the perfect for this adventure. The sun rays filtering through the glass and the breeze that blows so softly inside the aircraft provide the perfect atmosphere for relaxing and enjoying a drink as you give your eyes a free view of the stunning sights around you. If you feel more adventurous, the pilot can take you through some simple acrobatic maneuvers or better still, giving you some control for some portions of the flight.
The ultimate experience is in piloting your own glider. Learning to fly one is quite easy making gliding a sport and an adventure that can be enjoyed by the old and the young alike. You can register for lessons at your gliding club and after a few days, you can become a fully certified solo pilot!
Make sure you carry your camera up in the air to capture the views and the moments. Once you land safely after an exciting flight, you will have great memories to be treasured for a lifetime.
