Geocaching
By now practically everyone has heard about geo-caching, the GPS-enabled sport that allows participants to find hidden caches around the world using space age technology. But the chances are also good that you have never heard of the newest spin on this, geo-tracking, which is related to geo-caching, but with a twist. In geo-caching participants find previously hidden locations using a GPS tracking device, only to record their findings in personal record books and a coordinating website. With geo-tracking, not only do you go to locations that have been visited previously by others, but you actually follow them, even if they have been there months or even years before you. You won't get lost, or even lose the route since you have the GPS notes left by previous visitors.
Further Twists and Refinements
Have you ever visited somewhere and found something so unique that you just had to tell someone about it? Perhaps you found a special location, or maybe you took your metal detector with you and found a valuable coin or object. With geo-tracking, not only can you follow another person's experiences, but you can also enjoy it right along with them, and maybe even find your own adventures along the way.
The first step in geo-tracking is to go to a number of websites that coordinate activities or you can find them on your own then find a track close to you or someplace you would like to visit. After you read the description of the area to determine what kind of adventure you will be in for (primarily to make sure you bring the right gear with you), you head off to find the starting point. After you find the location with your GPS device, you start your tour. Using the descriptions and GPS coordinates you are provided with by the previous adventurer, you can take advantage of the same fun they did. For example, if a previous adventurer found a nest of coins on a beach, he will leave you notes about what he found and where he found it. If you want to find out if there are more coins, you can take a metal detector with you to determine if there are more.
More Adventures to Find
If you decide that a particular location isn't to your liking, you can either skip that one or find an adventure that has been left by an entirely different previous adventurer. It's all up for you to decide, and to make the adventure all yours.
