Indoor Skydiving
Have you always wanted to fly? Experience the immense excitement of skydiving from a safe and controlled environment. A powerful indoor wind turbine generates a vertical column of wind which is propelled upwards at speeds of almost 120mph. This wall of air is capable of supporting the weight of a human body hence producing a sensation of total freefall without having to jump out of a plane. It becomes possible to replicate the different maneuvers performed during skydiving – turning, rolling, lateral movements and other mid-air acrobatics – because the physics of body flight come into play as the body floats in the wind tunnel.
It all begins with a brief training session conducted by one of the instructors on all the techniques that you will need to ace your first time, including how to maintain the right skydiving position and the hand signals used by the instructors while in the vertical tower. No previous experience is required. Once you put on the specialist jumpsuit provided, helmet and goggles, all that’s left for you is to fly. You will be so exhilarated that you will be unable to stop smiling long after you finish your turn.
From the instant you lean into the chamber, you are required to keep your chin up, spread out your hands and maintain the legs in a slightly bent position. The goal is to mimic the dynamics of a plane. Your movement inside the vertical wind tunnel depends on how you adjust your body positions. With time, you will be able to master the turns and maneuvers of expert skydivers, so every session will always be different and exciting. The flight itself lasts for only two minutes, but the wonderful sensation you get from indoor skydiving lasts throughout the day.
The second jump is always more pleasurable than the first because you will have gained some confidence. The more times you fly, the better you become, and the more addicted you will be. It’s also interesting to know that indoor skydiving is actually a form of resistance workout and the strong winds in the tunnel make it a low impact exercise. An instructor can burn as much as 2000 calories in a day!
Be sure to bring your friends, family or colleagues along and get to watch each other perform some aerial acrobatics from the viewing gallery. You will have lots of fun in the process. In fact, why not get a loved one an indoor flying ticket this Christmas?
